At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!” Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Matthew 9:3-4 NIV
Why is it that these teachers of the law were speaking evil? God is a God of healing, of mercy and restoration. These teachers were focused on the law, many of which were laws of man and not of God. These teachers had no place in their teachings for healing, only obeying laws. Healing is not received through obedience to law, but through understanding of who God is, His righteousness, holiness, His mercy, His willingness to forgive. This is the character of God. God wants to be close to His people. This has always been His desire.
