The Next Generation

 I remember when my mom passed. She was the last of mine and my husbands parents to go. I realized that we were now the older living generation . The ones that all the generations below us would be looking to for advice and Godly wisdom, family stories. Now you are the head of the family so to speak, responsibility changes. We all get handed that torch sooner are later. Question is, are we ready?

 “Hear, my son, your father's instruction And do not forsake your mother's teaching;”
Proverbs 1:8 NASB

 Are you taking the time to hear the wisdom coming from your parents and grandparents? Maybe you think they are just under educated, old fashioned or out dated. My advice to you is get rid of that attitude and give them another chance. Listen to their stories with an open mind and heart, even if  you might have heard them 100 times before. Try and see their hearts as they tell them to you. They have life lessons that can not be learned in a class room. Ask yourself, is there a lesson hidden in that old story that they are trying to pass on. Let them share their wisdom from the scriptures, things God has shown them through years of seeking Him.

 There will come a moment when you realize you can’t call your grandparents, mom-dad or Aunts and Uncles for their words of wisdom, you know the ones you thought were antiquated but you would give anything to hear right now. 

Have you spent that much needed time listening to those before you—are you personally spending time with God, learning and receiving wisdom from Him? Go back to your roots, seek God as your parents did.

 “but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;” 1 Peter 3:15 NASB
