Genesis 16:8-9
[9]The angel of the lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit to her authority.” Genesis 16. New Living Translation, NLT.
The above statement was directed at Hagar, an Egyptian housemaid to Sarah. When she ran away from the presence of her Mistress.
Why did she do that?
She became swollen headed when she found out that she was pregnant for Abraham, the master of the house. It was the mistress who graciously gave her, Hagar, to her husband to be his wife when she did not have a child.
As soon as she conceived, she became uncontrollable. She failed to take instructions from her boss to her own undoing. The submissive mistress turned to the master of the house, Abraham, for authority to cut Hagar to her size which was granted. She dealt harshly with her until she left the household into the wilderness. It was there she met an Angel of God who revealed her weakness to her and the way out.
What were they?
Her recognized weakness was pride in the face of higher authority. The recommended way out was so which later guaranteed her safety in the house of comfort where everything was available.
She went back home to submit to the higher authority of Sarah, her mistress. Hagar's experience is a common thing among mankind, especially women. Submission ensures safety and peace under any constituted authority.
Beloved, are you also submissive to higher authority in your life? This can be anybody. What will assure you of your safety and well-being is submission. Therefore, go and submit to the higher authority in your life. Remain blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
