Just Like Me

With straight back and ardent stride,

Armed with a Bible in one hand,

He takes his place on the platform,

A knight shining in God’s armour,

Defender of truth,

A role model of God’s love,

He takes command of the pulpit,

Like a general about to lead the charge into battle,

All ears in the room listen attentively,

For the life-giving truths that will lift up weary hearts,

A mighty rich voice echoes throughout the hall,

This champion of God was born to preach,

Every word resounding God’s wisdom,

And then…

A stumble,

The sound of pages,

Frantically rustling on the pulpit,

Ten seconds of awkward silence,

He’s lost his train of thought,

And that’s when I remember,

That our hero on the pulpit,

Is still a man,

In need of God’s grace and mercy,

Just like me.
