It's Christmas season once again and today I want to share with you about love. Jesus Christ who is the reason for the season is love personified. He proved it by giving himself for us. 1 John 3:16. Today, I want to encourage you to walk in love and live intentionally fulfilling God’s purpose for your life. May I remind you that we are all living on earth as sojourners. One day, everyone on earth now, would no longer be on the earth. Everyone would be gone. To heaven or to hell. Now you have the time to decide where you would like to spend life after you leave the earth and how. I added how to the last statement because there is hierarchy in heaven. Not everyone who makes it to heaven would be greatly rewarded. Just like we have different classes of people here on earth. For example, we have the wealthy class, middle class and lower class. So have we in heaven. There are some people who are in heaven right now, who made it to heaven by grace, without good works. Of course, everyone in heaven now, made it to heaven by grace (by receiving the free salvation Christ offers) but in heaven, people are placed and rewarded based on their level of good works. If you claim you are saved and you love the Lord but don’t show love to your fellow human beings, you may make it to heaven but you won’t be highly placed over there. For when it’s all been said and done, only what you did for love would really matter. Everyone’s works would be passed through fire and only what was done for love would come out of the fire and would be rewarded. Every other thing would not stand a chance. Such works won’t be able to stand the test of time, as they would all be burnt in the fire (see 1 Corinthians 3:11-15).

Do you know that there are types of giving? Yes but the only type of giving that would be rewarded and is recognized by heaven is the one that is done cheerfully or from a heart of love. 2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver”. And do you know that there are different kinds of good works? Yes, there are different kinds of “good works” but the only good work heaven recognizes is charity, which is based on true love. That is what I refer to as good work. In 1 Corinthians 13:2, Apostle Paul wrote, “And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing”. Paul understood charity. He understood that he was nothing without charity. You could give one billion naira to charity, church or fellow human beings but if you didn’t give it with cheerfulness or from a heart of love, there is no reward for you. God only rewards people who serve with love. So I encourage you to build on your salvation by doing good works based on love. If you are among the people saying, but there are people with good works that are not saved. Yes, it’s true. But they need to be saved to get to heaven. Scriptures say, the Just shall live by his own faith (Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38, Habakkuk 2:4). You can’t live with the faith of another person. You got to live by your own faith. So focus on your own salvation. If you are saved, you already have the foundation of grace and salvation. But make sure you build on it by walking in love, living intentionally, serving God and fulfilling the purpose of God for your life. If you do this, great is your reward in heaven. I end this sermon with Galatians 2:20. It says, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me”. Always remember, Christ died for you and is now inside you. Therefore you are to live intentionally for Christ on a daily basis, doing his will and fulfilling his purpose for your life. As you consciously yield to obeying the Lord and doing his will, you will soar on the wings of divine love. You will go higher in his will and in his purpose for your life in Jesus name. If you believe, say – Amen!!!

By this we know what love is: Jesus laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers - 1 John 3:16

But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames - 1 Corinthians 3:11-15

Prayer:
Father GOD, when it’s all been said and done, only what I did for love would matter. I ask that you give me the grace to walk in your will, your purpose, and in the fullness of your love. I pray with thanksgiving in Jesus name.
