  For our sake God made Jesus to be sin. Think of it, it wasn't merely that Jesus was to bear or carry sin, he was to BE sin. It wasn't only being attributed to him, it was entering into his very being. To be sin, he had to let sin sink into the very core of His being. (That is why the Father had to turn away from him in disgust when he was on the cross, because God cannot look upon sin. That had to be so devastating and traumatic for Jesus!  Until that moment, he had always been in the bosom of the Father, in perfect uninterrupted communion with His Father.)
  Similarly we, as believers, yield as his righteousness sinks into the very core of our very being, so that it is more than an attribute, it becomes part of who we are, so that we become inseparable from it.  We can never become separated from his righteousness, if we truly BECOME his righteousness.  (2 Corinthians 5, v21)
