The Mark of a Mighty Warrior
I fixed my eyes on the action wood. I had gouged and grooved the maple wood, and then, finished it with rosewood varnish. Slid my fingers and glossed over my bearded cheek on the orange tung-oiled finished masterpiece. Smooth limb core rock maple seemed to connect to my whole being. I imagined myself to be a mighty warrior. And a craftsman. A great core wood I had found to be most reliable.
I had my aim in order. Focus to direct each straight, slender rod or shaft steadily - fletched and tipped---that each projectile shoots from my weapon. The weapon I made with hemp and linen bowstring attached to each end. When the bough bends, an arrow propels and aims at my target.
The notch just an inch behind the fletching receives the bowstring. The nocking point laterally reinforces it in place on the bowstring so I could nock my arrows to the point of aim. A masterful skill I learned all these years.
I draw my bow at an anchor point fully, expertly and carefully, near the corner of my mouth. As if I speak to its “soul” to where I direct the arrowhead. Straight to the heart and core of my aim.
The first weapon I ever made. I use for hand-to-hand combat. A battle against an enemy. I had learned that the enemies are not always an arm's-length away. Not even within eye shot. Not in sight to be easily spotted. As a warrior and hunter, I felt the need for my weapon that could reach my mark even a great, inconspicuous distance away. Sometimes, they lie woke creeping, invisible and hidden behind barriers of every degree of evil cover-up.
The tension in an arched bough of weapon propels the wooden missile for a mile away and slash through barriers. I have to grasp the mystery that the deadly arrow must be pulled back inwardly close to my heart so that I can thrust the point to the heart of my mark. The more I draw my arrow toward my heart and soul, the farther my shaft leads and reaches straight to an adversary.
The Word of God is weapon when we're face-to-face with overt challenges of life. Pulling the bow, pointing at a mark-of-shot, I learned to gage. Some kind of guided judgement on to where my arrows should point directly to the aim from within my soul projecting towards many battles in life.
God’s commands and instructions for righteous living are acts of goodness are like fletching guide within the darkest point of the universe. How am I to aim to target my battles, even so far from my reach and so elusive?
The Word of God is our weapon in a battlefield. A standstill retreat to self-awareness— to the very core of our innermost being. The salvation, Truth, Light and Godliness within, aimed at the mark like arrows in the hand of a mighty warrior.
Psalms 127:4 As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, So are the children of youth.
