Prayer is spiritual respiration, and just as crucial to spiritual life as physical respiration is to the natural life. It's not selfish to pray for yourself, as long as you don't make a habit of stopping there. Even Jesus prayed for himself first in the 17th chapter of John's gospel, and then moved out from there in something like concentric circles of prayer. Even when Jesus was praying that he be glorified by the Father, it was so the Father would be glorified in him.
Next, Jesus prayed that his disciples would share the same unity that he and the Father shared. He did not limit that to the disciples of his own generation, but included us today. Think of that! The same unity and the same love as that experienced in the Godhead! That could only come about supernaturally. He knew that as that happened the world would take notice. Jesus went on to pray in that prayer that his brothers and sisters would be gathered to him where he would be, in glory,  that we could all enjoy Him and each other eternally.  We can see from that desire of his that Jesus never tires of us. He wants our company always and forever. He may tire of our repeated ungodly behaviors,  but Jesus never tires of the actual ones He created us to be. Rather, He cherishes those persons collectively and individually!
