Forgiven Not Forgotten            Jane H. Young

Have you ever heard this statement “ I will forgive them but I will never forget”. This is 100% opposite of what our Heavenly Father says “"for I will be merciful to their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more."” Hebrews 8:12 NASB1995

I have a  tough love test for myself to judge rather or not I have truly forgiven someone. If I can talk about the situation and not feel hurt or angry I know I have been able to truly forgive. Now will I forget what happened, probably not. That incident  is in my brain right along with 1000’s of other things I would love to forget. 

I have to work at not dwelling on hurtful times in my life but I am not the only one. Seriously everyone has something to blame someone else for; right?  I made a firm decision years ago to move forward giving it my all not to make the same mistakes that had hurt me, and to not live in the past.  

It is not happening to you now, it is over so why would you want to continue to let it play havoc with your life.  Do you think  it’s  their fault  how bad your life is turning out. Why would you think that way? Has the part of your brain that allows you  to think for yourself been permanently damaged?

 The person that hurt you ,and you supposedly forgave is free to carry on with their life. Why on earth would you not give that same gift to yourself. The real problem is you never really forgave them and certainly choose not to forget, you have chosen to make yourself miserable for years or even the rest of your life. What you have done is given yourself a poor excuse not to do better or be  different then the person who wronged you. God has the answer:

“Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;” Acts 3:19 NASB1995
