Listening to Tony Evans teaching on Moses and the Exodus from Egypt, which is what our Sunday School teacher, is also covering, a few thoughts occurred to me. (You knew it would happen.)

Moses spent the first 40 years of his life as a pampered city boy in Egypt. In no way was he prepared to live in the wilderness. So God moved him to the wilderness to be a shepherd for another 40 years. While there, he learned everything he needed to know about living and surviving in the wilderness.

Then, when he was 80 years old, God sent him on the mission of a lifetime, to rescue millions of people and keep them alive for another 40 years in the wilderness. Only years of training in the wilderness could equip him to carry that off. (And God's provision, of course.)

Makes me think, if I find myself in a job or situation that I don't particularly enjoy or want to be in (it's happened) I need to look carefully to see what God is training me for. Moses likely didn't appreciate 40 years of training in the wilderness, yet there he was. Sometimes I don't see what I've been trained and prepared for until I'm in that next stage. But looking back, I can see God's hand in every part of my life; training, preparing and shaping me to be the worker He wants me to be.
