God's Judgment, Then and Now

The time of Noah, before the Flood, was indeed an evil time. (Gen. 6:1-5) Man had mostly turned away from God and fallen angels walked the earth in the guise of men, procreating with human women in the hopes of polluting the human seed from which the Redeemer would come. "Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence. God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth." (Gen. 6:11-12)

The times we live in now, which many of us believe are close to the time of the end and the return of Jesus, are likewise evil times. Our own nation, long considered to be a bastion of good in the world, has sunk deep into depravity and evil. The scourge of abortion, which has murdered enough people to populate a decent size country, has descended into infanticide and is being celebrated. Homosexuality, described by God as abomination as it distorts the image of God in man, has increased and is likewise celebrated by our nation in an unseemly way. The breakup of the family, in concert with adultery, divorce and abuse of all kinds, is another of Satan's attacks on God's plan for mankind. Violence and destruction stalk through the earth on all sides.

The world in Noah's time was judged and destroyed by water, a worldwide flood that covered even the tallest mountains. "The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered. The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered. All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. (Gen. 7:19-22)  All life perished except for Noah and his family, rescued by God in the Ark, a type of Christ.

So our world will one day be judged and destroyed, but this time by fire. "But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up." (II Peter 3:10)

We must see clearly what is happening and prepare for that day by turning to God, accepting Jesus' death as payment for our sins, and trusting Him with our eternity as well as our present life. This is the only way we will escape being judged and thrown into Hell (yes, contrary to what you've been told, it's a real place) for eternity. All humans will live forever, but how and where you live is up to you. An eternity of pain, darkness, burning and suffering, or an eternity of peace, light, enjoyment and fulfillment; the choice is yours. Choose wisely.
