“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how will it be made salty again?” (Matthew 5:13a NASB)

Have you noticed how some people can tend to blabber off to others just to have the upper hand? They don’t even check to see if the facts are true or not and whether it will be hurtful or even detrimental. Then it happens to them and it is totally a different story. The shoe on the other foot as they say. To that person they did no wrong.

God warns us to be careful of when and how we speak. “A time to be silent, and a time to speak.” (Eccl. 3:7b NASB)

We are to close our ears to those who gossip. “He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, Therefore do not associate with a gossip.” (Proverbs 20:19 NASB)

There are times that you may receive a vision or word from the Holy Spirit about someone and it is at that time in which you will need discernment on whether to share that information or not. Sometimes we are simply to pray for said person or situation.

What type of legacy do you want to leave? Do you want to be a person that would be considered loyal and true to your word or one who is unworthy?

“The Lord’s light penetrates the human spirit, exposing every hidden motive.” (Proverb 20:27 NLT)

James three tells us how our words can be negative or positive. Let us look at it together:

“Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!” (James 3:1-5 ESV)

It is a sad thing that we can use our tongue to both bless and curse, but we can also choose whether we want to tear someone down or build one up.

What would this world be like if we all chose to bless rather than destroy?

In my mind's eye I see all these flickers of flames/beacons of light coming forth from every nation. East to west, north to south.

It only takes one person to start a rumor and it also only takes one person to start blessing another.

“But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:20-21 NASB)
