In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God – John 1:1

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth – John 1:14

Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”

 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves – John 14:8-11

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit – Matthew 1:18

For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one – 1 John 5:7

 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men – Philippians 2:5-7

Sermon:

The deity of Christ remains a mystery to many. Especially to unbelievers. Many believe Christ is just a prophet of God. They are correct but he is more than just a prophet. While many believe he is a prophet, many more believe he is the son of God. They are also correct but he is more than a son of God. Jesus Christ is no ordinary man. He is God. He is a member of the Godhead and the second person of the trinity. He shares the same “Status” with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. John the beloved explains in John 1:1 and John 1:14 that Jesus Christ is the word that existed from the beginning and that he is God. He also explained in 1 John 5:7 that Jesus is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit. In John 10:30, Jesus Christ himself said that He is one with God the Father. And in John14:8-11, He explained it in more detail. In John 20:28, after his death and resurrection, Thomas referred to him as God, when he saw him.  If He isn’t God, He would certainly have rebuked him. Another evidence could be found in Revelations 1:8, where Jesus Christ, referred to himself as the Alpha and Omega and the Almighty. Only God bears such names. All these truths point us to the truth that He is God.

Many wonder why Christians believe that the man Jesus Christ is God. Many unbelievers and atheists would always argue that. But Jesus Christ is no ordinary man. He was born a child of the Holy Spirit as stated in Matthew 1:18. Apart from Adam who was made from the dust of the earth,  Eve who was made from Adam’s rib, and Jesus Christ who was born a child of the Spirit, every other man was born from the sexual union between a man and a woman. However, From the scriptures, you could see that Jesus Christ remains the only human that was born of the Spirit. He was not conceived through Sperm. Apart from this fact, Jesus Christ existed before he came as a man as we saw in John 1:1. He existed from the beginning as God the word. He created all things with God the Father and the Spirit. Through Him all things were made; and without him, nothing was made that has been made, as stated in John 1:3. Paul in Philippians 2 tries to explain the drama and story of Christ. Jesus Christ existed as God before the foundation of the world but because of his love for mankind and for the restoration of man, He decided to become an ordinary man. He left all his glory in heaven and became a man in order to save mankind. Adam the first man (the Son of God) and his wife sinned and thus sin entered into man’s world. Every man automatically became a sinner. So Jesus Christ who is God the word had to take the place of Adam in order to begin a new race, a new breed, and a new generation of saints. He took the place of the Son of God and became a Son of Man. He died and resurrected on the third day as an immortal and became the firstborn from the dead. So that whosoever will believe in him will not perish but have everlasting life. He became a Son of Man and died so that through his death, the sons of men may become Sons of God. He who knew no sin became sin on the cross, so that we may become the righteousness of God in Him. Though He was rich. Yet he became poor. So that we may become rich in Him.

Beloved, Jesus is God. He is Omnipotent as He said in Matthew 28:18, that all power belongs to Him. He is also Omnipresent as stated in Ephesians 1:23 where it is stated that Christ fills all in all. Only God is Omnipotent and Omnipresent. Therefore He is God. Lastly, in Hebrew 1:6, God the Father ordered the angels to worship Him. Only God deserves worship. Therefore He is God.

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory (1 Timothy 3:16).
