Each Generation - Jane H. Young

My grandmother left me something that I didn’t appreciate  until years later. As I look back now I remember her sitting by the window with her Bible in her lap. She would just stare out the window and start talking to herself—are so I thought. As I got older I realized she was talking with God and probably praying for me. Everyone knew she loved God because she wasn’t ashamed to talked about Him and did so often.

“For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid among his fathers and underwent decay;” Acts 13:36 NASB

If our generation doesn’t  make serving God the main purpose in life for others to see —how is the next generation going to be able to pass it on? I was blessed enough to have people in my life to invest in my generation. I didn’t always want to hear what they had to say, but I am thankful for the seeds that were planted in my me. 

The greatest thing we can leave our children and grandchildren is our love for God—our life lessons from our walk with God, scriptures that have been the driving force in our life,  ones they hear you speak of and live by in your everyday life.  

If you want to teach them a habit , let them see you reading your Bible and spending time in prayer. Show them how to trust God when things seem hopeless, to have joy in celebrating life, let them see you walk in peace when it seems impossible. We need to leave a place in people’s hearts and life that they can look back on and say “ thank you for investing in me.” 

Prayer:  Lord I want to be an investment in others lives. I ask You to work deeply in me and clearly through me, fulfilling the purpose you have given me for this generation. 

Jane has a heart for serving God and making a difference in the lives of others.
