“The north wind brings rain (Proverbs 25:23a NASB).”

North winds also bring colder temperatures. I’m glad I can retreat inside when the winds begin to blow. We live in the Louisiana Delta where lands are flat and cleared for farming. There’s nothing to break the strong north wind. Winds can have a big impact on our weather.

I was born and raised in the Upstate New York ‘snow belt.’ Lake effect snow and winds are not a good combination. Weather forecasters often shared winter weather advisories and warnings of Northeasters. Like most, I was snowed in during the Blizzard of 1966.

Other areas of our nation are also known for strong winds. 

Chicago is the Windy City.

City residents are accustomed to the winds of San Francisco.

We were unaccustomed to Santa Ana winds when we moved from Ohio to San Bernardino, California. You’d have to experience Santa Ana to understand; these winds topple over 18 wheelers!

Sometimes we experience winds of adversity.

Dig in your heels; stand strong.

“In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which perishes though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory (1 Peter 1:6-8 NASB).”
