PROLOGUE

Many international events of epic proportion have played out over the course of history. Too many to attempt to list, I’m sure. Historic occasions such as the conclusion of WWII, man walking on the moon, the invention of the Internet. And, oh yes, that all- important event for us couch potatoes, the TV remote. One such divinely directed event of epic proportion on the world scene was the nation of Israel becoming a state in 1948.

As the Jewish leader, Ben-Gurion, so aptly put it, “This right is the natural right of the Jewish people to be masters of their own fate, like all other nations, in their own sovereign state.  Accordingly, we…. are here assembled… and by virtue of our natural and historic right and on the strength of the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, hereby declare the establishment  of a Jewish State in Eretz-Israel, to be known as the State of Israel.”

Of course, the true story of Israel actual began with the Abrahamic Covenant, when  our all-powerful, all-knowing living Creator made this covenant with Abraham in (Genesis 12:1-3).

Now we move on throughout the eons of history, to another epic and more recent international event entitled, “The Abraham Accords.” The Abraham Accords was a joint statement between the State of Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States of America, dated August 13, 2020.One news media figure called it “The day heaven came down.”

An Internet excerpt stated the following, “It is pleasure to be writing about something positive that is happening in the world for a change. And the Abraham Accords is certainly a very positive development.”

Also, according to the Internet, “In short, the Abraham Accords indeed was of great and positive importance. Very good news in a world with a shortage of such news.”

So, on with our story.  I trust you will enjoy this bit of faith-based fiction entitled “The Day Heaven Came Down.”  Can you glean a bit of its musing within this fictional dream world parable, that of an earthly story with a heavenly meaning?

“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender. Pay attention and turn your ear to the sayings of the wise; apply your heart to what I teach, for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all of them ready on your lips. So that your trust may be in the Lord, I teach you today, even you.” (Proverbs 22: 7,17-19)

“Why go to sleep?” I ask myself. “It seems as of lately all I do is dream away. Why can’t the portals of glory speak to me for once, while I’m awake?  Me, of all people, a well-known, established professor of religious reasoning, would surely understand.”

There I was, quietly relaxing in my man cave, enjoying my favorite religious history book in preparation for next week’s lesson plan, over a glass of warm milk along with Mom’s homemade cookies. I must have dozed off. The book print began to fade out, as did my man cave, progressing into another of my dream world adventures.

I suddenly found myself lost in the wilderness. Finding a large rock, I decided to rest a bit before moving on. I stared at my watch and what seemed an eternity had been only a few minutes. Suddenly there was a man, sitting near me. How long had he been here? Who was he? What did he want?

He seemed to be straight out of the Bible, wearing a camel's hair garment with a leather belt around his waist similar to the prophet Elijah in the Old Testament.

Laying down his camel hair backpack, he began to speak. ”You seem to be somewhat tired, my good man. Don’t you worry, it will all be all right. His divine purpose will be held," he said, as he quoted (Daniel 2:21).

He took me by the hand and we silently moved on, up and away, as if we were flying. We were off to places unknown, I suspected. The purpose was unknown to me. Seeing my frustration, he spoke again,

“My child we will soon be there. It will be a ceremony of historic proportions, an event worth noting. It will surely be a normalizing event for today’s hectic world."

In a blink of an eye, we were there. flying across what appeared to be a large river and into the middle of a bustling metropolitan city. Looking around, my first thought was, I know this place, this is a familiar governmental tourist attraction. Our college has made many civics field trips here.

There were all the expected tourist attractions; the domed capitol, the large statue in front of the court building, the stately monument reaching upwards, the mall surrounding a reflecting pool. And oh yes, there was a large, pillared mansion behind the guarding fence.

Judging from the landscape backdrop, this dream must have taken place in past history. Why this dream’s historic recall, and the purpose of it all, was mystifying to me, even  in a dream.

People were all around. There were tourists of all kinds, ages and descriptions, typical tourists carrying the usual brochures and cameras. They milled around as if being fascinated by the many historic attractions.

Occasionally, there were a few small groups of sign-carrying political activists marching here and there, peacefully transmitting their beliefs by way of graphic posters. Mixed in with the tourists were many governmental dignitaries. Whatever the reason, the government must have been in an official session.

“We must move on, my child, it's time for the historic event to commence,” he said as

we found ourselves beyond the big fence and on the front lawn of the stately mansion.

It was a large gathering. People from all walks of life were sitting patiently on the lawn in front of the big stage and podium. It had to be an historic ceremony of some patriotic event, for a large military band was playing patriotic music in the background. There were a number of flags gently blowing in the breeze.

"Oh, I get it now you must be a prophet of old," I exclaimed. "You had it all figured out, didn’t you?"  I had to speak above the noise of the crowd.

Quickly, many dignitaries began to arrive, all taking a seat in accordance with their name plates.

Within this gathering of dignitaries one man stood out among the rest. He seemed to be the leader of the group, a gentleman of obvious distinction and celebrated honor within his country. He was seemingly familiar with these surroundings. He was a tall, respected dignitary with neatly combed blond hair, dressed in a sharply pressed blue business suit, white starched shirt, red power tie and wearing a patriotic flag pin.

As this leader approached the podium, a respectful silence fell on the sitting crowd. He drew a New Testament from his pocket and opened his speech by reading a familiar Scripture verse.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His inheritance!" (Psalm 33:12)

This introduction was instantly followed by a barrage of spontaneous chants of  “USA”, “USA” “USA.”

He raised his hand, quieting the participants and gaining their attention, and began to speak. His every word seemed to meet with the approval of the gathering. It was a speech of historic proportions, and I even heard an Amen or two. Also, from  the obvious reaction, his words seemed to bring an instant accord among the many nations represented.

So what was the occasion? What was his speech all about? Did it garner up support? And why the delayed dream reaction?

Sad to say, as usual, I happened to miss the grand finale by awakening quickly from it all. What a mistake that was! Oh well, I can google its results, I’m sure.

As instantly as I first left, I was back home, sitting there in my man cave recliner, as if I never left, as if time had stood still for a fleeing moment.  Oh well, I can’t let a good treat of warm milk and cookies go to waste. End of a good fiction episode.  Maybe, if I’m so lucky, I can remaster this one exciting yesteryear experience into a future dream, for posterity. Won’t you please stand by with me?

EPILOGUE

I trust you enjoyed this bit of fictional musing. Dreams can surely be strange bedfellows at times. We all have them. Some we vividly remember; some are long forgotten. And yet of course many are never recalled.

How did the message of it all come across? The more it happens, the more I don’t understand about dreams. Why do so many dreams end unfinished, before the end result of the dream is revealed or known? This happens to me so often. And a search of the Internet doesn’t give much relief.

Leaving one’s dream world unfinished does leave much room for a final interpretation and room for speculation, be it good or bad, depending the variation of one’s mind set.  I guess then, the bottom line here would be to fill in the blanks.

So, how do you dream about today’s culture? Are you blinded to its effect on our civilization? Do you feel resistance may be hopeless? Or do you roll up your sleeves and go to battle?

Most important, if you do have such evocative dreams that stir your thinking, how do they leave you when you awaken?  What is the impact on your future?

In the light of all that is going on around us, what’s your take on this fictional dream parable?

Bye for now. Until my next dream, may you also have sweet dreams. Please stay tuned for the next editi
