Better Than GPS

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My loving eye on you." Ps. 32:8 NIV

My sister and I have an understanding. If one is driving, the other one is the navigator. Even in the days of Siri and Google, you can’t beat a human navigator. For one thing, Siri may call me by name and if I am lost, she can give me directions to Home. But that’s as much as Siri knows me.

My sister will let me know, “Eventually you’re going to be turning left, you might want to get into the left lane soon.” Much better than hearing from Siri, “Turn left” when I am in the right-most lane of a three-lane street during rush hour. Siri won’t tell me which route I should take based on which one has my favorite Starbucks on the right (so I don’t have to do the dreaded left turn across traffic), but my sister will.

But when it comes to life, I have the best navigator, the Holy Spirit. “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, “this is the way, walk in it.” Is 30:21 NIV. Unlike fallible human navigators, He never steers us wrong.

And as well as my sister knows me and will never deliberately guide me in a harmful direction, the Holy Spirit knows me ever better and knows which path seems good but won’t lead me to the best destination. My sister and I are close, but she doesn’t live inside of me, a fact for which both she and I are extremely thankful, but my Heavenly Navigator does.

Heavenly Father, I thank you that we do not have to travel the roads of life directionless and alone. Thank you for lovingly guiding us, may we ever be attentive to Your voice.

I love this devotion. I can truly relate too. My husband is a computer guy and prefers GPS but I like a map and like to navigate. The message is profound too. I think this would be a great devotion for a major devotion magazine. Or if you haven't submitted it to FW's devotions, I'd urge you to do that too. I especially enjoyed the prayer.

I love this devotional because I identify with the security we experience knowing how well the Holy Spirit knows us.
