BLESSINGS OF DEUTERONOMY 28:1-14.

Blessings from Mount Gerizim and curses from Mount Ebal. Deuteronomy is the fifth book of Torah which Moses wrote. May be last chapter Joshua, Moses’ aide wrote. Jesus in his testing of Satan used three quotations from Deuteronomy. Two quotes from Chapter 6 and one quote from Chapter 8.

Deutero means two meaning the law was given to Israelites the second time at place called Moab. Moses was for deliverance from Egypt and Joshua for conquest of promise land. Moses most humble man drew a pattern for the prophets. Character witnesses the call. Moses never told about his burning bush experience to anyone because God is so good to Moses and used to speak as a friend to Moses.

Blessings for obedience are in first fourteen verses. There are given two qualifications one if you fully obey the Lord means complete but not partial obedience. And the other carefully follow all his commandments means love. Love means doing the commandments of God. 2 John 6.

Based on Deuteronomy 28:2 the notion that word of God always overtakes an individual whether it is a blessing or a curse is genuinely true. And word of God never comes back empty. Isaiah 55:11. Word of God creates things. Genesis 1. Jesus is logos the written word of God. The word became flesh and dwelt among us. John 1:1&14.

Three resolutions from these fourteen verses. Firstly, Lord will set you high among all the nations. Secondly, the Lord will grant success over the enemies. Finally, Lord will open the heavens and pour out blessings. Obedience is the power for the disciple. And love is the fulfillment of the law. These two are the qualification for the blessings.

Blessings are you will be blessed in the city and country. Like God gave Abraham Isaac. And Abraham was made nation Israel. Lord will make you head. He will make you holy nation. You will lend but not borrow. Enemies that come against you will flee in seven directions. To attain these, you need to obey and love God in fullness. The passage speaks of material to spiritual blessings.

Partial obedience is disobedience. Jesus told teach disciples to obey or observe everything he has commanded. Matthew 28. Good teacher not only teaches but also observe whether the disciples obey or observe everything. The question is, is Jesus Lord over all the areas of your life.

Did you give him to be saviour all the corners of your heart? Are you seeing him as saviour beside Lord and friend? With the Lord 1% disobedience matters much. Love the Lord with all your heart, mind, soul and strength. This is the greatest commandment. And the next unto it is love yourself and love your neighbour as yourself. On these two hang all the law and the prophets.

Benediction is like selfie both sides interact. May the Lord bless you and keep you the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious unto you and may the Lord turn his countenance towards you and give you peace. If you are not blessed in the church, you are not blessed elsewhere. Blessing in the land now resembles blessings in the Christ and church.

This is love not that we loved God but God loved us and gave his son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:10. Those who really love Jesus keep his commandments. John 14:15. And God will remove blessings if you sin. For instance, Adam. And individual sin will become national sin. For instance, Achan. If you sin God will punish the place and place will vomit you. Leviticus 18.

Remain in Jesus to bear much fruit. John 15. And all the promises of God are yes in Jesus and God’s people said Amen. 2 Corinthians 1:30. Kingdom of God is not playing it safe, doing little or nothing but demands results. Squanderer will be impoverished. If you obey you will see the kingdom of God. Repentance to commandment is not important but repentance to Jesus Christ is important.

No need to fear about anything except for disobedience. Holiness and peace with others should go hand in hand. Disobedience is costly and is the only cause of fear. Offer your bodies as living sacrifices holy and pleasing to God for this is your reasonable act of worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you can able to test and approve the good, pleasing and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2.
