One Of The Two Was Known

Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard, but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in. John 18:15-16 NIV

As I was reading these verses something came to mind that I had never thought of before. This other disciple (assumed to be John) was known by the High Priest. This means most likely that the Hight Priest knew that this man was a follower of Christ. No one in the courtyard questioned the other disciple as to whether or not He was a follower of Christ. It more than likely was known that He was a follower. This of course did not come to mind to Peter, for if it had he might not have felt so threatened when He was questioned in the forthcoming verses.

If we are asked if we are a follower of Jesus Christ, what do we say? Do we say yes, regardless of who asks us, or do we tailor our response based upon who the questioner might be? I pray that we would be bold enough to say that yes, we are a follower of Jesus Christ. He has done so much for us. Let us not deny that we know and follow Him.
