I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. John 17:14-16 NIV

Because the disciples were given the Father’s Word through the Son, the world would grow to hate and reject them, just as they had done to Jesus. Jesus knew that the disciples would need to carry on the sharing of the message, so He did not pray that these men be taken from the world. They were to be in the world, but not of the world, just like Jesus. What they needed was protection from the evil one. Jesus prayed that the Father would protect these men as they carried on.

We today who serve the Lord are also not of this world. Jesus stands before the Father in prayer for us that we be protected from Satan and all the worldly lure which lies before us. Our mission is not to be attached to this world and its evil lure, but to carry the message of Truth to a world in dire need. Feel God’s protection over you as you serve Him.
