Then Jesus’ disciples said, “Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.” John 16:29-30 NIV
The disciples here appear to be saying to Jesus that now that He was speaking plainly to them and not using figures of speech that they understood Him and thus accepted that He came from God.
How much do we really understand the Father and the Son? Much of our belief truly must come from faith, faith in someone far greater than ourselves that we cannot totally grasp with our feeble minds. Yes, there is much about God we can and do understand, yet there is so much more that we cannot now grasp and must accept on faith. But we know that if we have faith even the size of a mustard seed what can be accomplished.
So, do we truly understand God? Somethings about Him we do, others are beyond our grasp at this time. But in faith we can accept that which we cannot totally grasp.
