God be our comfort and refuge,

When the sun loses its light,

And hearts lose their courage and might,

When danger seems to have no end,

And the brokenness will not mend,

God be our comfort and refuge,

When friends no longer heed our pleas,

And the mockers’ jeers won’t set us free,

When suffering unabated brings no relief,

And each new day only adds to the grief,

God be our comfort and refuge,

When weak knees buckle underneath the strain,

And all our prayers seem in vain,

When strong wills begin to bend,

And patient endurance has reached an end,

When the fierce battle has been lost,

And all dreams and hopes have been tossed,

When all our efforts end in misery,

And nothing else will set us free,

God be our comfort and refuge.
