“Don’t give up; don’t be impatient; be entwined as one with the Lord. Be brave and courageous, and never lose hope. Yes, keep on waiting— for he will never disappoint you!” Psalms 27:14b TPT

I have a “wait” problem. When I am anxiously waiting, and time agonizingly crawls forward, I hate having the goalposts within view—and then moved.

Six months ago, my right diaphgram became paralyzed, causing breathlessness and chest pain when I overexerted or even sang. The issue can be resolved with surgery but due to COVID this “non-essential” surgery couldn’t happen for several months.

I eagerly anticipate meeting with the surgeon, scheduling the surgery and getting back my singing voice and energy.

But then my surgeon’s office tells me, “We have to reschedule you.”

Reschedule! More waiting! The goal posts get moved three more weeks down the road.

Like a drowning woman, I grab the rope of God’s word and read Isaiah 40:31, one of my favorites: “But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”

Oh, the richness of God’s word! Where the NKJV says “wait on the Lord, “ the NIV says “hope in the Lord.” And the NLT says “trust in the Lord.” “Wait, trust, hope.” The strands of meaning in this rich verse build my rope of hope.

“Lord, we praise you for your timeless word, appropriate for everything we face. We do hope, trust and wait on you, so that we will soar like eagles on the wings of your word.”
