What is the origin of slavery? When did it begin? How prominent is slavery today?

Slavery began quite a long time ago. It existed before the time of Jesus Christ. If you want, I will tell you when slavery began. It was initiated on that day in the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, eating the fruit of the tree that God had forbidden. So, how is this the initiation of slavery you say? Quite easy. With sin entering the world, so entered slavery, slavery to sin.

In being a slave to sin, one is a slave to the devil. Those who are “from below” are slaves to what this world offers them.

Why do you think the human soul is searching? Why would it search if it was satisfied with what the world offers? The soul searches because it knows that something is missing in what this world offers. It senses as if it is being tricked, duped, fed a bunch of deceit and lies. Guess what? That is the truth, and that is why the soul is searching.

Dying in one's sin is tragic. I envision one being suffocated, unable to breathe as they struggle to catch a breath of air, to catch and hear truth and not the usual bundle of lie upon lie.

But herein, in this scripture reading Jesus tells us that we need not die in our sins. We need be a slave no longer. Today the number of slaves who walk this world is countless. Are you a slave? Are you bound and shackled by your sinful nature? Are you enslaved to the desires of the flesh? Do they have control over you and what you do? This need not be the case. You do not need to die a slow, tormenting, death, a death in sin.

Jesus is the remedy. If you truly want to be free, you must belong to Jesus Christ. You must unconditionally and totally give your all to Him. If you truly desire for Him to live in you, He will. He will bless you with the Holy Spirit. With Christ you shall no longer be a slave. Yes, you will at times stumble, succumbing to sin, but Christ took all your sins to the cross. Return to Him. Repent and be restored by Him. He is there and waiting.
