Not Of My Authority That I Speak

The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. John 14:10b NIV

Jesus did not speak of His authority. He spoke of that which the Heavenly Father, who worked in and through Him wanted spoken. The authority spoken by Christ was that of the Heavenly Father. Why is this so hard to believe? A press secretary does not speak on their own behalf, but of that of the person they represent. We are very willing to accept this as reality. So why would we not accept what Jesus says here about the authority of which He spoke as being that of the Heavenly Father?
