How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? John 14:9c NIV
I have the impression that the disciples were looking for a visual encounter with the Father, maybe something like Moses and the burning bush which was not consumed.
Jesus is letting the disciples know that what is of importance is not to see the Father with one’s eyes, but to feel the Father living within your being, inside your heart, mind, and soul. To worship God, one must do so in Truth and in Spirit. What is seen with the eyes is temporary, but that which lives within the heart stays and abides.
So, what do you wish, a quick glimpse with the eye or the indwelling with your soul and Spirit?
