Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:11-15 NIV

John was the author of Revelation, yet he was told what to write by Jesus Christ. So, you can truthfully think of these as the words of Christ Himself. This can be a pretty scary passage to read.

So, what about those who are true believers in Jesus Christ? The sins of the believer were judged 2000 years ago when Jesus Christ went to the cross. Not just some, but all of our sins were nailed with Jesus Christ to that cross. That is the power of the cross, sins washed clean and no longer waiting as judgement against the one who did them. So, when you stand before the Great White Throne on that day there will be no sins in the books to judge you for. They were washed clean by the blood of Jesus Christ. But one must remember that this is for the true believer in Jesus Christ. There is no fooling God as to whether or not you believe in and follow the Son. You cannot half-heartedly accept Jesus Christ. You are either a true believer or you are not. No fence sitting is allowed or accepted.

Woe though to those who are found to be filled with uncleansed sin, those who chose not to accept Jesus Christ. In this passage Jesus Christ specifically says the fate that those will experience. It is not what Christ wants for anyone. But we all have been given free will to choose what we shall do with our lives, how we shall live them, and who sits on the throne to our heart. Jesus is not the one who condemns these people. It is their chosen acts and thoughts which condemn them. Yes, they condemn themselves by choosing to believe and act in the way that they did during their lives without approaching Christ for forgiveness and a changed heart.

What shall it be for you on that day? You can choose to ignore it now if you wish to, but it does not change the fact that you, and I, and every soul that has ever lived will face that day. Through your decisions in life may your sins have been forgiven and removed from you 2000 years ago at Calvary.
