Staring At One Another

His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant. John 13:22 NIV

What a bombshell the Lord just dropped on these twelve men. Here they had followed Jesus for over three years, had witnessed the many wonderful miracles He had performed, been taught by Him, and had come to believe in Him, yet here He stood and outright told them that one of them was going to betray Him.

What went through the minds of each of these men as they stared at one another? Was it more singling out one as the potential betrayer? Were they questioning themselves as to if they might be the one who would do such a thing? And what was going through the mind of Judas Iscariot? We do not have the answers to these questions.

What do we do when Jesus comes to us with something that just really throws us off guard? Do we trust in Him or start using our own thoughts to determine what if anything we are to do? We must learn to discern if it is the Lord truly speaking to us, and if it is Him, then trust and proceed accordingly.
