Prayer About Being Judgemental

Lord God,

I confess that I have developed a cold and judgemental attitude towards others,

And am quick to look down on the faults of others,

In a world that is plagued by sin,

It is easy to become bitter towards the wrongdoing that I see all around me,

Even within the church,

So often I find myself quick to judge my brothers and sisters,

Lord, forgive me for my sins,

And cleanse me from the bitterness and evil in my heart,

I pray that the next time I am tempted to be critical of the sins of others,

Remind me that I am also a sinner who has been saved from death through Jesus,

And that without your grace and the work of your Spirit in my life,

I would be no better off than anybody else,

When I am tempted to focus on the sinful habits of others,

I pray that you would teach me first to confess and repent of the sinful habits in my own life,

When I am tempted to hold grudges against others’ failures,

I pray that you would teach me to be quick to forgive, just as I have been forgiven,

And although there is a time when it is right to confront a fellow believer over their sin,

I pray that you would help me to check my motives before doing so,

So that I wouldn’t act because of the need to feel self-righteous over others,

But would be motivated by love and a desire to see the other person restored from sin,

Please teach me to be slow to judge and quick to listen when I respond to the sins of others,

And to show kindness, compassion and grace when correction is necessary,

So that instead of condemning them,

I would point them to the same grace and mercy that I received in you.
