To this point the Jewish leaders and the Pharisees had at times wanted to stone Jesus for what they considered blasphemy. They mocked and ridiculed Him for what He preached. Jesus did not fit their mindset as to how Messiah would be.

But now their thoughts and actions turned to an outright plot to take His life from Him. They did not realize that of their own will Jesus would not lose His life. Jesus was put to death because He humbly accepted the will of the heavenly Father. The Father wanted an eternal sacrifice which would lead to forgiveness of sin, that which separates the Father from that which He created. Jesus knew He had the right to freely give up His life, and to receive it back again. Jesus Christ died for you and He died for me. That shows the extent of the love of the Father and the Son for mankind.
