FADED PATHWAYS

Emptiness has taken up residency within these walls
Once housing your laughter
And the sounds of your heart -
That music which filled me
To overflowing -
And now is gone.

In its stead
A void, living, whose every breath
Sucks up the joy
Once birthed in you -
Leaving only a hollowness whose hunger
Is never sated.

Left here, dwelling, but no longer living -
I remain but an isolated part
Of a once thriving whole
Waiting
Listening
For empty footsteps
Having walked to another realm.

Then the faintest of whispers,
An echo of your laughter lost
Wings its way to my heart on faded pathways of once buried memories
And I feel your stirring -
Know your presence reborn
In secret chambers that have stored you for eternity

And I am not alone . . .
