Joe Biden and King Hezekiah

Remember all those old childhood sayings designed to make you feel better?

Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. Actually, with counseling services now covered by many health insurances, names apparently do hurt. In fact, most people heal from a broken arm but emotional abuse can last a lifetime.

OK, what about “cheaters never prosper?” Well, we live in a fallen world - cheaters do prosper. At least short-term but isn’t that the point? To get instant gratification. However, many examples indicate those who cheat reap some type of sow later.

Cheaters Usually Prosper but Only for a Time

2004 and 2018 Boston Red Sox

Remember the 2004 baseball season? Everyone jumped on the Boston Red Sox bandwagon leaving the longtime faithful just a bit annoyed (Well, at least I was.). The team’s dreadful loss in the 2003 American League Championship Series turned just about every baseball fan against the New York Yankees and on to the Boston Red Sox the following year. The Red Sox obliged and ended their 88 year old “curse” and won the 2004 World Series.

Too bad they cheated. In the ensuing years, revelations came out implicating at least two of their super stars as hopped up on illegal performance enhancing drugs. Then in 2018, the Red Sox were caught red-handed in a cheating scandal that rocked the baseball world and placed an asterisk next to their 2018 World Series Championship.

In less than 15 years the Boston Red Sox went from America’s team to replacing the “hated New York Yankees” as many now say their favorite team is whoever plays against the Red Sox. But the Red Sox cheating scandal pales in comparison to the 2017 Houston Astros who quite arguably won the World Series by cheating.

2017 Houston Astros

A blatant network of signs and trashcan thumping helped propel the Astros to the 2017 World Series trophy. But their game was up pretty quickly as just two years passed before the discovery of their tainted Championship which ended up exposing the 2018 Red Sox World Series win.

People were fired, the team was fined, players faced the wrath of opposing pitchers and in a twist of cheating fate their bench coach Alex Cora, instrumental in the whole affair went to the Red Sox the next year. He’s now out of baseball and the Astros will forever be tainted by the scandal.

1960 Presidential Election

In 1960, Democrat John F. Kennedy won the presidency against Republican Richard Nixon. Turns out though, Kennedy cheated. Well, maybe not him, but his party sure did. Apparently, enough dead voters in Chicago and Texas helped propel Kennedy to the victory leaving the once shoo-in Nixon outside the White House for eight more years.

Somewhat notable - Nixon won Florida, Ohio and Iowa but lost the Electoral College. The only other time this happened, since 1852, would occur 60 years later.

Meanwhile, Kennedy, an arguably solid president despite his apparent illegitimacy, didn’t even last his full first year term. Tragically, Kennedy was assassinated three years later.

King Hezekiah - circa 715 and 686 BC

Not so much cheating but certainly a warning to be careful of what you wish for. King Hezekiah, the 13^th King of Judah was, by all accounts and supported by biblical scholars, an outstanding king.  He succeeded the wicked King Ahaz and destroyed pagan alters, temples and idols. He loved the Lord and held a close relationship with Him.

But on his death bed, as told in Isaiah 38, he begged the Lord to spare his life and as the pastor of my church (in a sermon on praying for the Lord’s will to be done) paraphrased the Lord as saying, “OK, if that’s what you want.” King Hezekiah got another 15 years of life and things didn’t go as smoothly thereafter.

King Hezekiah ended up showing the Babylonians all his treasures earning a rebuke from Isaiah and a fulfilled prophecy that the Babylonians would take his riches and descendants but perhaps even worse Hezekiah fathered Manasseh, considered the most evil King of Judah and who many scholars believe killed Isaiah.

In many respects, King Hezekiah cheated death at least for a time, but it didn’t end well.

2020 Presidential Election

In 2020, many argue and much evidence suggests that Democrat Joe Biden won the presidency by cheating. Like Kennedy before him, maybe Biden himself did not engage in actual cheating but his henchmen in the Democrat party certainly did. More than 500 signed affidavits by individuals who witnessed cheating, more than 42,000 reportedly voted at least twice in Nevada, more than 200,000 voted improperly in Wisconsin, suitcases full of ballots caught on camera in Georgia, vote counts inexplicably stopped on election night and a plethora of anomalies, inaccuracies, bizarre voting irregularities, inexplicable departures from past norms and a mess of unexplained oddities highlight the 2020 presidential election.

You don't have to agree with me that cheating propelled Biden to the White House but good luck convincing the mjaoiry of Republican voters and nearly a third of Democrat voters. Yep, not as one-sided as the mainstream media would have you think.

But Joe Biden won. After 47 years of likely pathologically lying just about everything, he finally made it to the top at 78 years of age in the likely throes of dementia. His running mate? Kamala Harris, a woman with a reportedly sordid past while climbing the ladder and who couldn’t even win her own state of California in the Democrat primaries.  Sadly, the female Harris, also a so-called “person of color” still needed a white man to open the front door of the White House. As Alanis Morissette would say, “Isn’t it ironic?”

Had Biden left the political stage 15 years ago he likely would enjoy retirement life today while fondly remembered by many as a dogged politician who spent a lifetime serving his country. Now, he coughs his way through speeches, needs his wife’s assistance, mispronounces names, gets titles wrong and will preside over a populace, many of who do not believe he will last his term.

But hey, after two previous failed attempts, at least he’s finally president.

Just be careful what you cheat for.
