Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp. John 10:39 NIV
How many other times have they attempted to take Jesus? We can refer back to three verses in John 7. Verses 30, 32 and 44 all speak of attempting to take Jesus.
How did Jesus escape their grasp here? Although it is not mentioned it is quite probable that He just left the temple area on His own as they were plotting how to take Him.
Jesus did not flee from these people because He was fearful of suffering. No, He left because the appointed hour for His suffering had not yet come. When the time was right He would not leave, but instead suffer greatly that mankind might have redemption.
