miracle:
a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency
Webster dictionary, in order to protect themselves and remain politically correct with their secular definitions, chooses to give credit to a “divine agency” as the author of miracles. But as Christians, we know better.
God is the author of miracles and no one else can take claim to owning His supernatural power to bring unexplainable results.
Miracles are God’s intervention in the normal working of the natural world we live in: they are an action of God that brings about a result not obtained by our own means. He performs miracles for two basic reasons: to strengthen faith and to accomplish good.
How often have you heard yourself using the word “miracle” to help explain something so astonishing and beyond your ability to comprehend? We use the word because it helps us measure the greatness of something when there are no other accessible words to use.
Experiencing a miracle leaves us feeling dumbfounded and at a loss to capture the magnitude of what happens when God intersects our circumstances and brings forth a change that changes us forever.
Think of the day you experienced the miracle of salvation. Becoming a new creation in Christ was a transformation that took place in less than a second when our heart turned to Jesus in repentance for the forgiveness of sin and we were reconciled to God through the shed blood of Jesus. We have zero authority to remove eternal stains from our souls, so if you have experienced the forgiveness of sin, you have witnessed a miracle.
Think of the times you have experienced God’s intervention of power when you had a change of heart pertaining to specific people, a job or family conflict, or personal dilemma. If you have forgiven someone and experienced a change of heart, you have witnessed a miracle.
Think of answers to prayer, when suddenly our lives are moving on a different trajectory and we acknowledge that God, at the precise time, intervened and changed our course. If you have experienced an answer to prayer, you have witnessed a miracle.
God wants to make sure that whatever good thing happens in our life stems from our faith in Him rather than a coincidence of good luck. He deserves the glory and the honor when circumstances and hearts change.
Today, as we enter more deeply into the Christmas season, remember the miracle of God’s presence on earth. The angel said to Mary, “For nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37). Mary responded to the angel: “May it be to me as you have said” (Luke 1:38). Amen and Amen!
