“You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!” John 8:57 NIV

First the Jewish leaders chose an age which did exceed the years of our Lord here on earth. Secondly notice that when they said that He had seen Abraham, it was not in the form of a question. They were making a statement, mocking Him for what He had said. Of course, they only meant that in the physical sense of seeing Abraham. They knew not that Jesus was saying that Abraham had prophetically seen the Messiah. I can imagine the snickers in the tone of the Jewish leaders as they made this statement to Christ. They were too close minded to realize the truth in that which the Lord told them.
