Made To Stand Before The Crowd

The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group John 8:3 NIV

How is it that the teachers of the law and the Pharisees had caught this woman committing adultery? It was probably still quite early in the morning, though we do not know how long Jesus might have been teaching before the woman was brought in. Or maybe she was caught the day before and those in authority wanted to wait until Jesus was teaching before a large crowd to bring her before Him. Notice here that she was made to stand before the people where all could see her. I imagine that as she was brought in the accusers were yelling out that she was an adulteress so that the whole crowd would hear and begin to build up resentment against her.

Is it not amazing however that none of those who brought her in looked to reflect upon their own shortcomings. How often might we do just the same thing? If we belong to Christ we will be led by the Holy Spirit to do inner reflecting and to seek healing and forgiveness from our Lord for our sinful nature. Our Lord is our redeemer and Savior. Give your life to Him!
