Lord God,

We live in a broken world where countless injustices occur every single moment,

Where corrupt leaders abuse their power and exploit the less powerful,

Where people use one another as objects for their own selfish desires,

Where the vast majority of resources don’t go to the people most in need,

And where people are wrongly accused and the guilty walk free,

As we contemplate the injustices all around us,

We feel anger, grief and despair,

It seems so much easier just to block our ears to the cries of others around us,

We would rather just live in a bubble and remain in blissful ignorance,

Rather than face the reality of evil and our feelings of helplessness to change it all,

Yet, I thank you Lord that you are not indifferent to injustice,

You are merciful, compassionate and your love never fails us,

You watch over the oppressed and ill-treated and hear their cries,

And you strengthen and uphold the weak and broken-hearted,

I thank you that you have set a day when Jesus will return in all his glory,

To bring justice and to reward each deed as it deserves,

To bring complete relief to the suffering and to set all wrongs to right,

And as we continue to hope for that day Lord,

Remind us that you do not desire for us to passively ignore the evil around us,

But you have taught us to walk in love, justice and mercy,

As you transform us to be more like your Son each day,

I thank you that when Jesus was born into our world,

He did not come as one who wanted to lord his power over us,

But he came to demonstrate true servant hearted leadership,

He cared for those who were in need and he showed love to the oppressed,

I thank you that he cared about the brokenness and injustice of the world so much,

That he gave his life by dying on the cross for our sins,

And just as we have been brought from darkness to light through faith in him,

Help us to shine as your light in a world full of darkness,

Although we may not be able to get rid of all evil until your perfect justice comes,

Please give us wisdom and strength to play our part as we serve you through acting justly,

May you continue to fill our hearts with love and compassion for a world in need,

Please help us to have the same concerns that you have for the oppressed,

And I pray that through all of our actions and words each day,

And the way that we treat one another,

May it be evident to everyone that we are people who care deeply about justice,

As we seek to help bring people out of their brokenness and despair,

Through the love and hope that is found through faith in Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.
