“He guides me in the paths of righteousness” (Psa 23 NKJ)

By definition, ‘righteousness’ evolves from a root word meaning straightness. It is a moral concept referring to conditions of an authoritative standard. Coupled with God’s character, we understand more about His pure holiness. Emphatically, God is the definition and source of all righteousness.

“I am the Lord your God, walk humbly before me” (Micah 6:8)

Equally important, the sacrificial system in the Old Testament and the cross of Jesus in the New Testament clearly reveals man’s need for righteousness. Similarly, just as God led King David, He reveals Himself to us through His Word. In reality, we acquire internal humility and not external greatness.

“Sow righteousness for yourselves and reap the fruit of unfailing love” (Hosea 10:12)

In the Old Testament the term righteousness is used to define man’s relationship with God and other people (Jeremiah 22:3) Equally important, in accordance with God’s standard and rich bestowment, we are equipped for every good work (Eph 2:10). While completely nestled under His tender affections, our spiritual lives strengthens.

Afterward, we are in a position to receive pure and righteous glory, refreshment, and renewal of bodily strength “Drip down, O Heavens and let the skies pour down righteousness” (Isaiah 45:8)

To be clear, we are not righteous because of inherent goodness. In fact, we cannot be holy within our own merit or perimeter. Therefore, we are wise to accept God’s imputed righteousness upon us.

In summary, God sees us as righteous because of our identification with his Son. It is being found in Him and not our own righteousness of filthy rags. We are clothed with garments of purity from the Lord.

**Thank you Father that the cross of Jesus is a public demonstration of God’s righteousness toward us**
