Amongst all the exegetical detail that a scholar could note within this text is one very simple yet equally profound principle of human existence. Obey God and trust his provision and direction for you.

I find it amazing that a command of that nature, sacrificing ones only son (sounds familiar?) is carried out without question or argument. Today, we complain about the most insignificant meaningless worldly pleasures. Looking to provide ourselves with the comforts of this world based on questionable human desires. Perhaps then, what drifts to the wayside is God’s provision and its joy his children should relish in. After all, our Father, who is in heaven, knows what we need before we ask it (Matt 5). To comprehend such a thought in both head and heart, is a true test of faith, how deep our love and trust of God truly goes. Thus our faith is defined, not by how much we say or think we trust God, rather our reaction to the bumps in the road to righteousness. Abrahams experience in Genesis displays this thought with perfect eloquence.

Sounds like an easy task. Human nature, however, tells us to earn each others trust. Wait until someone has given good reason to earn your trust, and then proceed, but with caution. Avoid pain at all cost. Is this our same reaction toward God? Are we waiting for God to give us good reason to earn our trust? Since when did he ever need to earn anything! Anyone can spout off spectacular catch phrases like; “trust Him with your whole heart,” and “my life is in His hands,” with the intent to appear as a superior possessor of faith. News flash, God does not want talkers, he wants doers. Abraham never talked about how much he trusted God, he just did. Abraham did not look for God to do something right that resulted in worthy admiration and trust from Abraham.

Trust just is. It comes from a deep, serious understanding of God and a desire to change everyday thought and lifestyle. The way in which you view money, the kind of car you drive, your house, even your credit rating. How wealthy is your spiritual life? You have all this stuff; great job, house, car, plasma TV, the whole nine yards. Now it is gone. How is your trust now?

Focus on the Kingdom and use your resources and worldly wealth for His glory and trust Him. Trusting God is completely knowing in your heart and understanding in your mind that he has the wheel, sees everything beyond the constraints of time and space and works your life for the better of the Kingdom and to serve for his glory and pleasure. Trusting in his provisions for us is not a request; otherwise Abraham might have argued or objected. Instead it is a command. Let us worry about how we glorify the eternal Creator of the universe and let Him be concerned with caring for us; you would be amazed at how well things work out.
