I stumbled upon Pastor Jon Courson and Applegate Christian Fellowship a few years ago after a friend suggested his sermons you can get online.
You learn a lot from Courson, in fact, much I had never heard before. He has a wonderful approach, a grandfatherly demeanor and his teachings on the rapture and End Times are must listens. He’s been full time in the ministry since the late 1970s so it came as no surprise when he stepped down as lead pastor earlier this year and gave the reigns to his son Ben Courson.
Sadly, Ben Courson has embraced the social justice gospel (I fled my home church of 10 years for this reason) and despite his high intellect, seems more about appealing to misguided millennial activism instead of spreading the truth of Christianity. Twice he said, for whatever reason in sermons, that the United States stole California from Mexico. A false narrative, likely pushed by pipe puffing and cardigan sweater wearing professors, but easily dismissed by a quick internet search. Then, he embraced another movement in direct contrast to the Christian faith. I didn’t stick around after that to see what else he was peddling.
Thankfully, Jon Courson has not fully retired and remains active in the church he helped build and still brings a Sunday sermon. His health and well-being now paramount to keeping the Applegate ministry on track, alive and well.
In a recent sermon, Courson delicately touched on the current political climate. No easy task. He recalled memories as a child when his parents were adamant that Barry Goldwater must win the presidency in 1964 against Lyndon B. Johnson, someone his parents described as a communist sympathizer who wanted to change our educational system. Courson laughed while recounting his political activism as a child and remembered how his parents and others vowed to move to New Zealand if Johnson won – despite the Kiwis already embracing socialism.
“My parents were really serious. Our country could not last… more than 10 years if Goldwater, our last chance to stem the tide of Marxism…if he doesn’t win we’re on a crash course that cannot be changed,” Courson said.
I knew where Courson was headed.
“Guess what, we’re still here,” he said. “God is on the throne.”
Right on cue. He’s right. We are still here despite Johnson winning. His point, and a good one, that no matter who wins the election in November, rage will exist on the losing side but ultimately we should rest just fine with our faith in God. He remains in control and determines the kings, heads of state and other world leaders.
Here’s the thing though. His parents were right.
Arguably, the Lyndon B. Johnson era brought forth change that has affected this country more today than perhaps at any other time. Johnson wanted to “…not only to relieve the symptom of poverty, but to cure it and, above all, to prevent it.” As LBJ stated on Jan. 8, 1964.
In the proceeding 50 years, the US government spent $22 trillion on welfare and anti-poverty programs as women married the government for financial restitution resulting in a rising number of fatherless homes. The black poverty rate was in full decline prior to the War on Poverty then stagnated once implemented. Fatherless homes in the black community rose from 25 percent to 70 percent in the decades that followed. Hispanic households have since hit the 50 percent mark and now 25 percent of white homes have no Dad.
According to a study discussed in a 2018 Washington Times article, Democrat college professors out number Republican professors by a 10 to 1 margin. Shortcomings of this imbalance include biased research with academic psychologists more likely to study the attitudes and behaviors of conservatives than liberals and sociologists preferring not to work with fundamentalists, evangelicals, National Rifle Association members and Republicans.
Geez, think students these days get a fair and balanced approach in the classroom? They don’t, I’ve seen it firsthand.
Today, socialism is the flavor of the month as Democrats push more and more far left leaning policies that no one would have embraced a mere 20 years ago and avowed Marxists have lawlessly taken over Portland, Seattle, Chicago and other major cities with the full support of elected officials as violent mobs turn downtown areas into places that resemble bombed out cities in Afghanistan.
Former Russian KGP agent Yuri Alexandrovich Bezmenov explained in a 1984 video how the KGB implements a form of brainwashing using a “slow process which we call either ideological subversion, active measures, or psychological warfare” to defeat America. This process occurs in several stages and takes decades to work. Bezmenov claimed the generation of 1960s hippies who came to positions of power in the '80s in the government and businesses of America were already contaminated by Marxist-Leninist values.
Bezmenov said the first stage of demoralization, an irreversible process, takes 15 to 20 years of re-education and eventually prevents the affected person from understanding the truth. “The facts tell nothing to him. Even if I shower him with information, with authentic proof, with documents, with pictures…,” he said. “You cannot change their mind even if you expose them to authentic information. Even if you prove that white is white and black is black…” It takes an entirely new generation to return back to patriotism.
The stage of “destabilization” take two to five years and the “crises” stage only lasts six weeks resulting in "a violent change of power, structure, and economy" followed by the last stage of "normalization."
Jon Courson’s parents were right.
They just underestimated the devil’s methodical patience, resolve and determination.
Reminds me of Al-Qaeda.
