Lukewarm love is an oxymoron or a contradiction in terms. When Jesus said to love one another, he meant to do so fervently. His definition of love includes the element of fervency. Fervency is otherwise understood as intensity. It is the fervency in our love that enables it or energizes it to overlook an offense and to freely and truly forgive the offender.
It will not always be possible to live peaceably will every person, but we are commanded as believers to give our best effort in that direction. That too is part of a lifestyle of fervent love. Fervent love is intense love.
