Lord God,

We thank you for the myriad of opportunities that are available in our world today,

For many of us,

We are blessed by how many choices we can make,

Regarding what pathways we can take in life,

And what we can choose to spend our money, time and other resources on each day,

Although this is a great blessing to us,

Having so many options to choose from can also be paralysing,

We often feel overwhelmed by the big decisions in life,

We question what your will is regarding which direction to take next,

Regarding where we should live, what we should study, what job we should take,

What church we should join, what ministries we should serve in,

Which person we should marry, how many children we should have,

We often feel clueless about what is the right decision to make,

And we are afraid that we will somehow miss your will for our lives,

But Lord, we thank you that you have not left us in the dark about following you,

We may not have your audible voice or a vision or dream telling us all the right choices,

But you have given us your Word which equips us for all good works,

Although your Word doesn’t specifically tell us every single choice we should make,

It does teach us about your character and your will for us to become holy,

Giving us the wisdom and principles we need to make any life decision,

We thank you that you have also given us a family of brothers and sisters in Christ,

We thank you that you often give them wisdom and insights that we don’t yet see,

So that they may offer us counsel during times of decision-making,

Lord, as we continue to live out our lives according to your will,

Please help us to not to be paralysed by indecision,

And although it is often right to take the proper time to make big decisions,

Please have mercy on us when our lack or delay in making decisions,

Has been motivated more by our laziness, cowardice and avoidance of responsibility,

We pray that as we ponder over the important choices we need to make in our lives,

Please teach us to seek after the counsel of your Word and of our brothers and sisters,

As we make difficult decisions such as where to work or where to live,

Help us to realise that there isn’t necessarily always just one right decision we could make,

Though we often think of your will for us as being only one strict pathway for our lives,

Teach us that many of life’s decisions often involve multiple pathways that we could take,

That are all in line with your Word and would bring you glory,

And we simply need the boldness to choose one of those pathways and step out in faith,

So as we continue to seek to obey you,

Please help us not to be hindered by the amount of choices we have,

But continue to empower us by your Spirit,

So that as we approach the often difficult decisions we have to make each day,

We might have the attitude that Paul taught us,

Of doing all things for your glory.
