Do You Want To Get Well?

When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?" John 5:6 NIV

One might wonder why Jesus would ask such a question of this man. What reason would the man have for not wanting to get well?

Here are two reasons why Jesus quote possibly asked this question. First, He wanted this man and those surrounding him to realize their utter helplessness in being able to handle the situation to heal this man. Secondly, I believe Christ wanted those around Him, including this invalid to be focused on Him, as He was preparing to perform a miracle before their eyes.

Has Christ asked you if you want to get well? When you first came to Christ, you might have realized that you were spiritually bankrupted and needed someone to help heal you spiritually. That someone is only Jesus Christ. When the focus in put on Christ, and not ourselves and our utter dependence on Him is realized, then healing can begin!
