Taken At His Word

“Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed. John 4:50 NIV

So why is it that Jesus did not accompany the royal official, but, instead told him to go home and that his son would live? I believe the Lord wanted to test the man’s faith, especially based upon His previous comment to this official.

Unlike many of the surrounding Jews, this man took Jesus at His word. He believed what the Lord had told him. Why should he not believe? If the Lord tells us that something will come to pass, we can rest assured that it certainly will occur. Here was a case of faith in action. Do we act like this royal official when Christ speaks with us, or do we still have doubt? Give up your doubt and fear and trust in the Lord. He will provide all which you need!
