I started on my Christian journey a long time ago.
With a great assurance of which way to go.
I was confident in what God wanted me to do,
But wasn’t aware of what I would go through.
As I started along my way,
I felt that all I needed to do was follow the pathway
That God had prepared for me;
And I never once considered the pain, suffering, and misery
That I would suffer from day-to-day
Until I decided to go astray.
Yes, I fell down along the roadside
With Jesus desiring and waiting to be my guide.
I fell into a trap of fornication,
And God allowed it to destroy my reputation.
I fell into lying and cheating,
And God, the Father, saw fit to give me a good beating
Because of my disobedience to His will,
And because I betrayed Him for a cheap thrill.
I fell into revenge and hate,
And I was filled with an urge that couldn’t seem to wait
To do things that were not of Christ
And were of a great danger to my life.
I fell down, but I got up again,
But I did suffer great strain
For the many sins that I committed
And the many people I had not pitied
When I chose to do things to break and abuse their trust,
And all that I had done because of sinful lust.
I fell down, but I got up,
But I still had to drink from the bitter cup
Of return and payback for all I had done,
And I’m up now and on the run
To assure that Satan doesn’t push me down
And deceive me of my starry crown.
