The purpose of the Law was to bring us into a right relationship with God. But it had to be kept perfectly for that to happen. Jesus did that and then sacrificed himself so we could come into that right relationship with God.  We already had a relationship with God,  but it was a wrong relationship with God,  the relationship of an enemy of God and a rebel against God. The devil believes in God but trembles. The devil has a relationship with God but it is the wrong relationship,  because it is the relationship of an archenemy.  The devil has no fellowship with God within that wrong relationship.  Neither did we when we were wrongly related to God.  That is not to say that there cannot be communication  in being so wrongly related.  Even the shaking of one's fist in the  face of God or another person is a form of communication.  God longs for more for us, with us and from us.  Sadly many believers, though they are rightly related to God through Jesus Christ His Son,  enjoy little fellowship with Him within that relationship. That is not the way God would have it.  But in these days we are seeing much of that begin to change for the better......
