If we are healed only slightly
It may be because we have only slightly considered
The depth of the Savior's wounds on our behalf.
So deeply he was beaten beyond recognition as Jesus the man, the son of Mary
So deeply he was even battered beyond semblance of human
That grotesque form spread there on the cross
With internal organs laid bare to casual onlookers
With broken heart laid bare to a leisurely glance
Laying bare the deepest and sickest of all terminal sicknesses
The sin sick human heart of us all.
