How Would I Feel

Just how would I feel if someone slapped me in my face;
Or, if someone put down on my color, culture or race?
How would I feel if someone spread my name through a rumor;
Or made me the object of their strange humor?
How would I feel if someone kicked me while I was already down,
Or turned my smile into a frown?
How would I feel if I loved someone with all of my heart
And he did all he could to tear my heart apart?
How would I feel if I was faithful and true to the one I love,
And I was the one he would rarely think of?
How would I feel if to make him happy, I gave all I had,
And his every effort was to make me miserably sad?
How would I feel if someone rejoiced in my sorrow
Increasing my feelings of little hope for a brighter tomorrow?
Just how would I feel if someone treated me as I treat others,
Not even having concern for the feelings of my sisters and brothers?
"How would I feel" is a question you should ask yourself
When interacting with someone else.
Just how would the words you're about to say make you feel?
Are they words to soothe and encourage, or to wound and kill?
It would be wise to consider others in what you say and do
Because your words and actions will truly return unto you.
For, God's word is true: you will surely reap what you sow;
And when it returns unto you, you will truly know
That it's repayment for whatever you did or said
As a reminder that in doing and speaking, it's best to use your heart and not your head.
Reach within yourself to evaluate your own emotions,
And I'm sure it will give you the correct notions.
So, husbands, wives, women, me, boys and girls,
Let it be known as you travel through this world
That you are a true Christian in what you do and the words you speak
By showing that one of God's commandments you will keep:
To do unto others as you would have them do unto you,
And holding to this commandment steadfast and true.
Just how would you feel if you were treated in a bad way?
I'm sure it would turn your blues skies into gray.
