Just as Moses lifted-up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, John 3:14 NIV

The verses associated with Moses and the snake on a pole are Numbers 21:4-9. The Israelites would have known that being saved from death from snake bites by looking at a bronze snake on a pole could only be through the mighty hand of God. This is a forerunner to mankind receiving salvation through the Son of Man being lifted-up.

Lifted-up was a polite way of saying crucified.

The serpent was often associated with evil. Christ took with Him to the cross the evil of all sin of mankind. There is not one sin for which He did not die for us. It is so sad that many reject the saving work of our Lord.
