HOW BAD DOES IT HAVE TO GET?
By Henry Jaegers
And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
(Revelation 9:20,21)
And the Lord appeared to Solomon by night and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for a house of sacrifice. If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attend unto the prayer that is made in this place. (II Chronicles 7:12-15)
As I have been listening to the news these days, I cannot help but feel grieved over the fact that these men who are the leaders of our country are just about at the end of their resources to solve the problem that exists. I hear the governor of New York talking about reaching an apex and once it is reached then we can descend the mountain, and I cry out from my living room hoping that somehow, he can hear what God has to say about all of this. Is there really a God in heaven who hears prayer and makes promises to us? The things that are happening have been predicted in the Scriptures long ago, but they are fit words for the men of today who have no idea there is a God who is not powerless.
I want to scream from the top of the mountains for men to hear what God says about perilous times coming. I want men to know that there is a God close by, regardless of how evil our hearts would be, waiting for us to get to the end of our human resources and recognize that we are helpless. That's what God means when he says “if my people will humble themselves”. It means getting to the end of our rope and recognizing there are no human resources to solve the problem that is before us.
I am not an end-times fanatic, but I know who God is and I am familiar with what he has to say about perilous times. I think of the verses in Revelation mentioned above how men will do everything possible to solve their own problem and never considering God.
Is anyone listening? Is it possible that someone can tell our leaders that there is the living God who is powerful and can stop all of it in a moment if we will just be humble enough to pray?
Oh, friends, hear my inner cry, joining me as we pray for these lost, helpless leaders who are totally blind in knowing the living God. Perhaps, God will hear the earnest, fervent prayer and although there are just a few of us, he will see our hearts and answer those few prayers. Our leaders need God, they don't need our criticism and I pray that God will somehow allow these words to penetrate and bring to pass the reality of these promises. GOD HELP US AND GOD HELP OUR COUNTRY. WE NEED HIM TODAY AND FOR THE DAYS TO COME.

Part of our obedience, of course, is to make prayers "for all men, for kings who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, Who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" - 1 Timothy 2:1-4. But the conduct of those men who don't have the truth have little to do with God's out-pouring of wrath on the nation in which His people merely dwell; rather such an outcome is determined by the misconduct of those whom do have the truth and identify as belonging to Christ.
It is so beautiful that if those who identify as believing in Christ and call themselves Christians, that if they turn from their wicked ways, therein humbling themselves and turning to the Lord in prayerful obedience, then like it was with Elijah--who "was a man with a nature like ours", yet who "prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months"--then, just like it was with Elijah, God will heal our pagan nation in which we dwell, similarly to how He told Abraham He would spare Sodom and Gomorrah for the sake of 10 righteous (Genesis 18:25-32), because "the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much" - James 5:16-17.
Therefore, let the people of God now turn, in these trying times, from sin and unrighteousness to righteousness; from promoting and accepting Divorce and from tolerating premarital sexual relations, and from the lack of commitment and honor which these lax romantic behaviors engender; let us turn now from an unspoken endorsement of Homosexuality and transgender-ism, whether it appears among our children and family members, and speak against it boldly in truth but with sensitivity; let us turn from lies and unfairness of judgment with one another; from any and all prejudice wherever no sinful lifestyle is being upheld; from turning a blind eye to the wickedness in our own households and among the believers we know, following the Bibles rules for handling such behavior, and make a return to judging those within the church, so as to maintain its integrity before the world for the sake of God's reputation, and ceasing to judge those without; from cowardliness, and from neglecting our duty to stand up for truth; from withholding from those in need; from ignoring those who have no fathers, and are in need of role-models and whom crave the comfort of sibling interaction; from ignoring widows, as well as the sick and hurting; from failing to be there as spiritual leaders for our own children, and instructing them in godliness, and disciplining them so that they will remain orderly enough to heed the instruction given; from electing over us as our spiritual leaders men who merely have an outward form of godliness, being merely charismatic, or sharp-dressers, or handsome, and instead electing such persons on the basis of their being sober-minded, and having their homes in order, and for being hospitable, and for showing us, in their own walk, what it is to live a life of love for our neighbors because they imitate Christ, and who are spoken of highly, for the most part, by everyone around them; and let us turn from hypocrisy; and from disbelieving the power of God to perform the miraculous works which He promises that His people will be able to perform in His Name; and from begrudging one another; from being lazy; from quietly hating or resenting one another; from avoiding reconciliation with one another; from pretending to be ignorant of His commands; let us do all these things, and humble ourselves before God, and pray; for, should we do such, He has promised He will hear His people from Heaven and heal our land.
